The Story of Sun Hill Studio
Dave Hill
Director of Reality
David Newell
General Manager
Tim Lau

Hannah Hill
Communications Director
As Sun Hill Studio’s General Manager Extraordinaire, (and co-founder), David Newell wears many qualified hats; Producer, Lyric & Song Writer, Recording Engineer, even Rhythm Guitarist. And with decades of experience, he is as passionate about the delicacy of music and the recording arts, as he is about the quality of each session, and your satisfaction with the finished product.
When he's not in the studio, you can find him designing and building custom guitars, or performing repairs.
So you think that ‘The Boss’ is a moniker reserved for that ‘blue-collar-musician-out-of-Jersey’, Bruce Springsteen? Well that’s because you haven’t met Hannah Hill, aka ‘The Boss’, who is the Communications Director of Sun Hill Studio (and Dave Hill’s precocious teenage daughter).
A lover of all things musical (and her most prized possession – her iPhone), Miss Hill enjoys maintaining the blog, Facebook and Twitter pages, for the studio. And who is more qualified than a 14 year old to master social media, eh?
Fluent in both German and sarcasm, she is also an accomplished traveler, an advanced honor student, and an award-winning local artist. And when not keeping the guys at Sun Hill Studio in line, you can find her, like most teenagers, hanging out with her friends discussing their plans to take over the world.
Check out her cheeky musings on BlogSpot…as David Newell (Sun Hill General Manager) says, “She is beyond her years – her clever mind will blow you away!”
Dave Hill is the Director of Reality for Sun Hill Studio. Dave originally from Orlando, Florida, is a world traveler, who gathers inspiration from the variety of music he encounters around the globe.
In addition, Dave has been involved with music for many years, playing guitar,
harmonica and singing. He can often be found in the studio working
on his music, or guiding clients with ideas and vocal harmonies
As Director of Reality, running the business’ is not his job, it’s his passion.
The idea to create Sun Hill Studio was born a few years ago. After a chance encounter, Dave Hill and David Newell began discussing their idea and the dream of creating a full service recording facility, based in Gainesville, Florida. Applying their single-minded dedication and passion, they set about to make Sun Hill Studio a reality, which it became a short time later.
Dave Hill purchased the Sun Hill Studio/Fiber Optics Plus building, which was once an old oil train depot from the 1930’s. The unique historical structure has twelve-inch solid brick walls, exposed interior curved roof trusses, as well as astounding acoustics. Still a work in progress, improvements are constantly being made, as their vision for the facility and its services continue to expand.
LauD Productions, founded in 1990 by Tim Lau in Lansing, Michigan, was a solid fixture in the mid-West for almost 15 years. Moving home base to Orlando in 2005, LauD Productions continues that tradition by providing professional and affordable music production with its latest venue, The Porch Studio.
Working with an experienced engineer is more important now than ever. An efficient, knowledgeable and creative engineer can make all the difference in the outcome of your project. With over 225 productions to date, LauD Productions has a large, diverse, and loyal client list that includes musicians of all styles. Although specializing in rock and metal, Laud Productions is proficient at recording any style of music.
The Porch Studio is built around a Trident Series 80 vintage console, and Pro Tools 8 - HD with Mytek converters. When traveling to Sun Hill Studios in Gainesville, LauD Productions brings a large collection of mic's, and great outboard gear, including a loaded API 500 rack (rentals available), Manley Dual Vocal Combo, Universal Audio 610, Creation Audio MW-1, and 8-Trident 80 Pre's & Eq (coming soon). Need to rent additional equipment? Give them a list – they’ll check it twice.
